Kumi Choi is regarded as one of Asia’s brightest young organists. The 2018 winner of Switzerland’s Saint-Maurice Organ Competition, she received first prize at the 2019 St Albans International Organ Competition, winning the Douglas May Award for Interpretation and the Peter Hurford Bach Prize. Ms Choi was the first female winner of this prestigious prize since 1985, as well as the first Asian winner of the prize since its foundation. Ms Choi has also received awards for her performance in other renowned competitions, such as the Gaston Litaize International Competition, Grand Prix d'Orgue Jean-Louis Florentz-Académie des beaux-arts, Mendelssohn Aarau Competition and International Rheinberger Competition for Organ.

Born in 1990 in Seoul, Kumi is a graduate from the Korea National University of Arts and Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where she studied under Olivier Latry and Michel Bouvard. She completed her Konzertexamen in the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg under Matthias Maierhofer. She also studied early music in Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with Wolfgang Zerer.

Ms Choi’s repertoire includes a vast collection of organ music, ranging from early to contemporary works. Her growing reputation has seen her perform throughout Europe and Korea. She has performed in renowned venues and events such as the Paris Philharmonie, Toulouse Organ Festival, Chartres Cathedral, St. Albans Cathedral, Mozarteum in Salzburg and Lotte Concert Hall (Seoul). Her first solo recording is currently in production.
